Assault Weapons

What is an assault weapon? Everybody here knows its a made-up term for a gun with scary looking doodads added. Wizbang has a piece in which they add a visual aid:
What makes the lower piece an assault weapon is the addition of the forward grip and a separate lug to which a more modern bayonet is attached. The upper one attaches the bayonet by simply slipping the ring on the base of the blade over the barrel.

To really finish this out, I would have added an elevated handle to mount the scope on, an elevated front sight to compensate for the elevated rear sight, A doohicky on the front to deflect the smoke to the sides, and an adjustable stock and pistol grip assembly on the back.

Someone with a copy of Photoshop could knock this out quickly enough.

You forgot a tactical lantern (or two tactical lanterns if the British are coming by sea).

They could be attached to the 4-rail barrel shroud. You know, the shoulder thing that goes up.
