A study released yesterday includes information on the highest crime areas in Denver, giving locations down to certain street intersections. If you have lived here for a while, most of these come as no particular surprise.
Those hot spots – which make up only 1.56% of Denver’s landmass (excluding Denver International Airport) – were identified as the following areas:
- South Federal Boulevard and West Alameda Avenue
- Colfax Avenue and Broadway
- Colfax Avenue and Yosemite Street
- 47th Avenue and Peoria Street
- MLK Jr. Boulevard and Holly Street
They are posted in no particular order, but the second one really stands out: This particular intersection is known all over town as a trouble spot, partly because of the persistent homeless encampment on the South West corner, but mostly because of the wholesale theft ring operating out of the building 1 block East of the South East corner, which is also responsible in no small measure for the homeless encampment as well.
