A Class Act

The Dem VP nominee has suggested that if Obama gets elected, there will be show trials for the outgoing Bush administration folks.

My question to Mr. Biden is this: Do you prefer the traditional "Arbiet Macht Frei" style prison facilities for your political enemies, or do you favor the newer "re-education" style camps favored by the Vietnamese and the Pol Pot Cambodians?

Huh? I think you're confused, Bill. It's the current, Republican administration who has been putting people in camps without trial, without presentation of evidence and without judicial review - not the Dems.

Although the accused have recently begun -slowly- to receive tribunal reviews, the process bears little resemblance to anything American citizens would think of as "justice".

Gomez is confused - "pepole in fact camps" include guys with guns shooting and bombmakers bombing. Obama even said we should conduct our Gitmo tribunals like the very successful Nuremberg Trials - which means no habeus corpus and a rope at the end of the day. Yeh that's a real hallmark of due process allright.

Let's be careful here, lest we wind up calling each other names and pointing fingers.
When you refer to people in camps, the variety covers a wide range. Gitmo is what I think of as a POW camp, usually reserved for folks who were involved in shooting at you as part of an organized army. We had large numbers of Axis soldiers in such camps during WWII in Texas and Arizona, and no one suggested that these folks needed lawyers.

Nuremberg was a special circumstance reserved for the planners and managers of acts defined as crimes against humanity.

The re-education camps I'm familiar with, were established by the N. Vietnamese when they rolled over the south, and included everybody who worked for the S. VN government or military. Worker bees were given a year of hard labor, and anyone in an executive position got 2-5 years, unless they held a position above the level of army captain, in which case they were executed.

Joe Biden cast several votes in the US senate that helped make this possible.
