How's Your Weather

Around here, it's hot and dry. On the northern east coast, it's raining. Drudge is reporting:

SURFERS HIT ROCKAWAY BEACH...

Entire Atlantic City seniors home refuse evacuation orders...

BLOOMBERG: Staying behind 'is against the law'...

Might shut off power in low-lying areas...

HIGH NOON: SUBWAYS, BUSES, TRAINS STOP...

Storm puts damper on The Hamptons...

Obama stranded, economy rebounds..

O.K. I may have made that last one up. Irene has come ashore in some places packing winds up to 33 mph. Mayor Bloomberg vows not to let this crisis go to waste.

It is amazing to watch all those talking heads and weather wannabes working toward their Christmas bonus . . er, I mean, relate the hurricane story. They all act as if they are covering the battle scene of a world war conflict.

And I am tired of the cliched wacko standing out in the wind and rain. They aren't describing wind, rain, or weather any more accurately for being stuck away from the office, and relying on the teleprompter and producer to sound credible.

As for the amateur derring-do moments intended to spice up the old Facebook page or YouTube, well the phrase "thinning the gene pool" is what comes to my mind. I can see the headlines now. "Bunches died, some from the hurricane, some from fatal foolishness."

Heartfelt "Get Dry Soon" wishes to everybody who was unlucky enough to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Even though the hurricane was a Cat 1, it's still a hurricane and carries an awful lot of water, which urban areas are unequipped to deal with.
