Colorado Gun Laws

That batch of gun laws that the Dems whooped through last year got their first hearing in federal court, and the judge says that while they may be frivolous, ineffective, burdensome and whatever else, they aren't unconstitutional.

An appeal is expected, but I'm thinking the odds are against us. States can do a lot on their own and federal judges are notably sympathetic to the positions of the federal government.

Of course there IS an election coming up in 5 months and what a legislature can give, a new one can take away.

I didn't follow the arguments, but I did read the initial complaint last year. To say that it was incredibly weak would be generous.

Re background checks, the plaintiffs should have taken the arguments that liberals use about voter ID laws -- how requiring a photo ID to exercise a right is racist -- and used that against the The State. Force The State to defend photo ID requirements.

Re magazines, the plaintiffs should have questioned The State on why 30-round magazines are necessary for government employees.

Our side blew it -- big time. Unfortunately, this was to be expected.

Speaking of photo ID:

New York to Issue ID Cards for Undocumented Immigrants
By Henry Goldman 2014-06-26T20:00:52Z

New York City’s 500,000 undocumented immigrants will be able to open bank accounts, visit libraries and use medical clinics, thanks to an official municipal identification card approved by the City Council.

The measure, backed by Mayor Bill de Blasio, passed in a 43 to 3 vote today with two abstentions. The photo IDs will display the holder’s name, birth date, address and -- at the cardholder’s option -- a self-designated gender.

My favorite line:
“If you can’t sign a lease, if you can’t get a bank account, if you can’t do the basics, if you can’t even prove who you are, it doesn’t feel like you truly belong,” de Blasio, a 53-year-old Democrat, said in April, in support of the card.

Maybe it's because you don't actually legally belong, ya think?
