NICS Checks - Dec 23

Having kept this log for 13 years, I'm out of enthusiasm for it. The big surprise, which surprised no one, would be the 2022-2023 spike when the Dems nearly took the trifecta in Washington but were unable to solidify uncontested 1 party rule.

NICS November 23

Barreling into the first decline in NICS checks since 2005!

NICS - October 23

I don't understand why NICS checks seem to be falling off at this point with the administration solidly hostile to gun ownership, Using the catch-and-release approach to violent criminals, and indifferent to opening our borders to People with inarguably sketchy backgrounds.

What's going on here? I'm beginning to suspect my data source (FBI)

They wouldn't lie to me, would they?

NICS Checks for September

Overall numbers are down again! It's almost as though the gun owners are convinced they have enough weaponry to hold of Milleys Marauders, and the antis now believe Antifa, BLM, and newly released criminals will leave them alone or something. The projected annual total is trending down for the first time since 2002!

QOTD - Guns

 Found at Breitbart:

While announcing the launch of an executive level gun control office–the Office of Gun Violence Prevention–President Joe Biden called again for a ban on “assault weapons” and said, “If you need 80 shots in a magazine you shouldn’t own a gun.”

Gee, Joe, if you have to disarm your constituents in order to stay in office, maybe you shouldn't be holding that office, ya think?

Examples:

"The people of the various provinces are strictly forbidden to have in their possession any swords, short swords, bows, spears, firearms, or other types of arms. The possession of unnecessary implements makes difficult the collection of taxes and dues and tends to foment uprisings." - Toyotomi Hideyoshi (1536-1598), Japanese Shogun

And here is the complete quote:

Every Communist must grasp the truth, "Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun." Our principle is that the Party commands the gun, and the gun must never be allowed to command the Party. Yet, having guns, we can create Party organizations, as witness the powerful Party organizations which the Eighth Route Army has created in northern China. We can also create cadres, create schools, create culture, create mass movements. Everything in Yenan has been created by having guns. All things grow out of the barrel of a gun. According to the Marxist theory of the state, the army is the chief component of state power. Whoever wants to seize and retain state power must have a strong army. Some people ridicule us as advocates of the "omnipotence of war". Yes, we are advocates of the omnipotence of revolutionary war; that is good, not bad, it is Marxist. The guns of the Russian Communist Party created socialism. We shall create a democratic republic. Experience in the class struggle in the era of imperialism teaches us that it is only by the power of the gun that the working class and the labouring masses can defeat the armed bourgeoisie and landlords; in this sense we may say that only with guns can the whole world be transformed.

NICS Checks, Aug 23

Nothing new to report. No threats are being taken seriously, crime is up, prosecutions are down, sales are about as expected.

NICS Checks July 23

Here is the rather unsurprising number for July. Looks like we're back on a "normal" curve with no alarming news breaking out.

NICS Checks June 23

The graph continues to droop. Mostly this is the summer doldrums.

XL continues to thwart me. The upper graph is annual totals. The Y axis is supposed to show the years. Last column is a projection for 2023.

NICS Checks May 23

Again, no real surprises or panics despite Biden declaring he will ban assault weapons, etc, etc.

Gun Law Overreach - Term Limits?

Seems New Jersey is going for the title of possessor of the most obnoxious gun laws in the country, having passed some that make even possession of a Daisy BB gun a felony.

I don't see this withstanding any court challenge at the federal level, but due to the way the system works, they get to keep it on the books for 2-3 years while cases drag their way from one court to another until the SCOTUS tosses the lot of them. Of course at that point, the NJ legislature simply passes a variant of the unconstitutional laws, and they get another 2-3 year run of illegal gun control.

I thing that if a legislature passes any law that is subsequently found to be unconstitutional in the supreme court, all the legislators at the state legislature who voted in favor of it should be removed from legislative office, and forbidden from ever holding such office in perpetuity. Should also include the governor who signed it.

NICS Checks, April '23

Back into the summer doldrums I guess.

Colorado and Washington just passed some onerous gun laws. The lawsuits were filed the same day.

NICS checks - March '23

So far we're tracking last years numbers pretty closely. My projection curve (upper graph) suggests another record year for gun sales. In possibly related news, Florida is now state #26 to institute constitutional carry.

QOTD - War

 Found at Bijourenaissenceman

In 1882 I was in Vienna, where I met an American whom I had known in the States. He said: 'Hang your chemistry and electricity! If you want to make a pile of money, invent something that will enable these Europeans to cut each others' throats with greater facility.' - Hiram P. Maxim, inventor of the water cooled machine gun

I wonder which might make you wealthier; Inventing a working FTL space drive or inventing a functional, long-range death ray.

NICS Checks Feb 2023

Early this month. No surprises yet this year.

Graph's getting crowded. I may have to do something about that.

NICS Checks Jan 23

Here's the latest graph. XL is fighting me or I've forgotten how to do these things. Probably the latter. I'll work on fixing it. Jan check total is 2673921 so you know where to look for the single dot on the chart. Click to enlarge.

NICS Checks Dec 2022

Winding up the year with a bang (so to speak)

The final number for December is 3.036.531 which is second best for December. Let's face it, 2020 and 2021 are going to be hard to beat.

NICS Checks Nov 2022

Man, I'm really slacking off on this blog.

Anyway here's the numbers thru November, and yup, we're about where you'd expect us to be. The Donks have discovered that turning their Brownshirts loose, while it does frighten conservatives, simply inspires us to buy more guns and ammo. Now they have to figure out how to take them away from us. They got one-party rule in the last elections, but the Supremes are slapping them back at every move. Anyone care to speculate what they'll do now that they've lost the House?

NICS Checks Oct 22

Still following a "normal' curve in spite of Slo Joe's blather about banning so-called "assault Weapons".

Sorry I'm late, but other stuff is proving distracting.

Not calling out the party brownshirts (Antifa et. al.) has brought the curve back to the steady rise we've come to expect. (Upper graph) Rising crime rates may well accelerate things as we move along although I'm surprised we haven't seen this earlier.

NICS Checks Sept 2022

Here we are again, outstripped only by the panics of the previous 2 years, but up a bit anyway, probably in step with population increases.

The dems keep yammering about confiscating "assault weapons" defined to be anything that shoots, and the SCOTUS keeps smacking them down. Soros funded AGs are still refusing to seriously prosecute crime, but they are being recalled and defeated everywhere. Promising, that. So far the people haven't decided to quit calling the cops, and just call a discreet cleaning service instead, but that's still a possibility.

NICS Checks, Aug 2022

Here's the numbers, and the curve is following a normal shape in spite of Slo Joes ranting and the ATF trying to define spitballs as WMDs:

Ho Hum I guess.
