Busy Day

Shortly after getting back from GBR and while still in a weakened dtate, a friend of mine sent me a note about a "daily deal" from Palmetto State Armory on a Bag-O-AR-Parts, just add lower receiver. Since I had won a lower at GBRIX , and it had been looking lonely, I bit. After all it was a $570 bag on sale for $400. It took me about 2 hours to assemble the parts which involved watching a bit of a how-to video then going downstairs to install the 2 or 3 parts, then back up to the 'puter for the next 2 minutes. Here's the result:

A big help here was that the upper receiver came pre-assembled. The Mag-Pul furniture is not actually gray, but a uniform black. I topped it with a 4X scout scope I had lying about in need of a home although that may well become a red dot at some point. I don't know.

Same day I finished this I got a call from the Arapahoe County Sheriff to come pick up my card. Elapsed time: 61 days. Could have been better, could have been worse. I'm not complaining, just observing.

With the above 2, the gun snobs can now quit sneering at my Hi Point and come read my blog. Now with fewer cooties.

The topper was getting back from the Sheriff's office and finding a jury summons in the mail. Man, those guys don't waste any time at all now do they.

When you go thru voir dire, if you tell them you're politically active, they'll probably throw you out.

And wear your FIJA t-shirt too.

You, and DirtCrash ... Errr, NotClauswitz too. Well, I made some recent progress on my 'one piece at a time' build. I might actually finish the thing this year. It's only about $600 or so away.

Now you can listen to sneering from the AR-15 snobs.

Oh, and now you need to grow a tactical beard, and paint your rifle.

The gun is fine just like it is. I already have a beard. Which of those paints would be the most tactical on my beard?

Bill, I recommend Krylon Moss. Or, you could just cultivate a crop of moss, which would have the advantage of being edible in emergency.

"I already have a beard."

But is your beard tactical enough?

Before you start sending in your application to Tactical Beard Owners Club you have to know that we receive many applications per month and we have to make sure right from the start if you meet the prerequisites. The following shall help you to check for yourself if you could be accepted. . . .

I checked, I qualify. It's already an Arctic camo color, gray with a few dark spots, so lying on my back I pass for a lichen-covered rock. Too bad there aren't more of those around here.

"the gun snobs can now quit sneering at my Hi Point"

The Firearm Blog (TFB) reports that "Palmetto State Armory recently debuted their new AR15 Lowers that accept Glock style 9mm pistol magazines".

Of course, since Glock 9mm magazines have the same dimensions as Glock .40 SW magazines, I can't think of any reason you can't get one of these and attach a .40 S&W AR upper receiver assembly. See the TFB story for links.

You can get 22-round Glock .40 magazines, and 33-round Glock 9mm magazines -- giving you more capacity than the 10-round Hi-Point magazines. Along with the simplifying your training, since your rifle and an AR-style pistol caliber carbine (PCC) would have the same controls.

Rob Ski from the AK Operator's Union (AKOU) Local 47-74 reviews the Palmetto State Armory (PSA) "Freedom" model, which is PSA's "budget" line of AR-15 rifles:

Short summary: while most won't consider PSA a "tier 1" AR-15, it was the first AR to complete Rob Ski's 5,000 round test, and is "good enough" for most consumers.

Since PSA is in South Carolina "down the road" from Fabrique Nationale USA, a lot (but not all) of their barrels are made by FN.
