Colorado Gun Law

Well there's 6 hours of my life I won't get back. Partly my fault as the bills I went to hear about are scheduled for next week. The one firearms bill discussed involved restoring gun rights to non-violent felons. This brought out several observations such as that child molesting and pimping are considered non-violent felonies. The bills author agreed to amend the bill with a list of socially acceptable felonies.

Present were representatives from RMGO, NRA(CSSA) and Firearms Coalition of Colorado.

Much Kabuki theater ensued soaked with parliamentary politeness. The 800 lb gorilla was not the committee chairman, and one legislator actually was acting to avoid the legislative trap of passing something just to show that something was being done. What fun.

Consensus among the gun rights reps was that most of the legislation being proposed is not actually expected to pass, but will be allowed to die in return for some minor pieces like a magazine capacity limit, and universal background checks, both of which will require universal registration to work.

Meantime for those of you who work downtown or have Friday off, there's a rally  Friday, February 8th at noon on the West steps of the Capitol.
